My Little Kumquats #009

"My Little Kumquats", 6x6, acrylic on hardboard

My after school art class for 1st – 4th grade started yesterday. We are studying the Impressionist artists.

I like this suggestion Monet gave to other painters:

“When you go out to paint, try to forget what objects you have before you – a tree, a house, a field, or whatever. Merely think, here is a little square of blue, here an oblong of pink, here a streak of yellow, and paint it just as it looks to you, the exact color and shape, until it gives your own naive impression of the scene before you.”

Trying to make my paintings more of an impression…and it isn’t easy! I think this one is going in my kitchen.

Thanks for stopping by!

Cupcake Top #008

"Cupcake Top", 8x8, oil on canvas panel

I know what it means to be a muffin top, but I’m not sure what it means to be a cupcake top.

I’ll be painting over the weekend to try to get a few new cupcakes ready for Art and Soul.

Lost in Chocolate Frosting #007

"Lost in Chocolate Frosting", 8x8, oil on canvas panel
Another painting for Art and Soul. I did get a bit lost when painting this chocolate frosting. I’ll have to give it another try some other day. A few of my painting auctions are going to end tonight! You could get a really great deal on an original painting. :)

No Painting Today...Just Planning

Yeah! I'm going to be teaching art for one of the local elementary school art clubs!

I'm really excited about this, because deep down I have always wanted to be an art teacher. Especially an elementary art teacher.  I'm also scared out of my wits! I hope my kids enjoy the projects I'm coming up with. I hope they aren't too advanced or too childish. I'm sure I'll be learning a lot too!

Well, back to my paperwork...

Remembering Grandma...

My Grandma, Eula Marie (Porter) Hingst, passed away January 4. She was 88 and as I was thinking about her all week I realized she really lead a great life. So, I'm trying not to be too sad.

Here are a few things I thought I'd share about her:

she was the absolute best grandmother
she always wanted to see her grandchildren
she always had time for us
she had a huge garden and would work in it in her high heels
she had lots of shoes...all styles and colors
she was a 5th and 6th grade teacher
during the school year she always had her hair "set",
but in the summer she would get it cut short so it was easy to take care of
she traveled to Europe, Ireland, Hong Kong
i got to go with her to Europe!
she cared...a lot

I miss her very much and I want to be just like her someday when I'm a grandmother!

Three Petites #001

"Three Petites", 6x6, acrylic on hardboard

Happy New Year! Hello 2012!!

Getting the new year off to a good start with a painting. I haven't painted since September or October 2011. (It's been so long, I can't even remember.)

Have you made any New Years resolutions? I'm still working on mine.

Hope your year is off to a good start too! Cheers!
